Nectar is a registered non-profit which stewards a 4 acre wildflower meadow and community farm stand at Ager Lane Flower Farm.

Through Nectars work the pollinator meadow is a living classroom for education and action for pollinators, seed savings, and food sovereignty.

Nectar was launched in April 2024. Below are the projects we’ve worked on since:

2024 Seed Swap!

We hosted our first annual community seed swap where approximately 75 people came together to share and swap seeds of all kinds including a collection of native plant seeds from Nectar Board Member Leah! To learn more about the seedy saturday event check out the blog post here.

4 Acre Wildflower Meadow Planting

In May 2024 in partnership with the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture and West Coast Seeds we planted a 4 acre wildflower meadow with the Bee Garden Blend! The meadow serves as a refuge for native pollinators and as a seed reservoir for future wildflower and pollinator habitat in Cape Breton!

Drag Bingo for the Bees

We regularly host drag bingo events at Island Folk Cider House! The proceeds go towards supporting local drag in our community and ongoing Nectar projects! If you’re interested in attending a drag bingo event check out Nectar’s instagram account here for the most up to date events!

Seed Saving Workshops

Over the fall of 2024 we hosted 3 seed saving workshops thanks to the Young Nature Leaders Grant from Nature Canada! We had 35 people come to the wildflower meadow and collect seeds to take home with them to create new pollinator spaces!
